Nestled 10 minuets drive from Taumarunui, exactly on route of the Te Araroa trail walk and cycle track, and a short  drive from National park, home of the Tongariro crossing and Mt Ruapehu snow fields, and Puriora Forrest, home of the Timber Trail Cycling Park.

Hikumutu Valley lodge offers a range of self catered accommodation to suit your needs - from back packer style bunk rooms, to private double and family rooms, as well as the additional pitches for a tents if we’re full and your caught out on the trail.

Set rurally along a quiet road our lodge is close to town yet peacefully out of the way. This makes it a perfect venue for workshops and retreats, yoga get aways, or small gatherings for those looking for a quiet spot to reconnect.

Overlooking our equestrian facilities, you may even want to plan a get away with your riding friends or perhaps if your a professional take advantage of our venue for your next clinic.

Our farm really does have it all - bordered by the powerful Wanganui river, topped with native Totora bush, and cradling its own waterfall and swim holes - we can help bring your event / retreat to life.

Te Araroa

Walking the trail? That’s awesome and something we would love to support you on! Our lodge’s driveway is directly on the trail 7kms out of Taumarunui along Hikumutu Road heading towards Owhongo.

We offer a special discount to those registered with the trust to be walking the trail and are very happy to receive packages to collect on your way by.

  • The lodge can host up to 45 people per night with various accommodation styles to offer.

    Bunk rooms - Several large bunk rooms offer back packer style accommodation of up to 8 people per room. With private lockable storage allocated to each bed, complete with charging port.

    Family room - This room offers a double bed as well as a set of bunk beds for two children. An additional pull out bed can be supplied upon request.

    • This large room has its own small ensuite shower and toilet.

  • Bunks; $35 per person, per night.

    Family room; $160 per night.

    Group bookings; priced according to the size and duration of your booking. Also dependent on if you wish to have exclusivity of the venue. Please contact us to discuss.

  • Our equestrian facilities are available for hire in conjunction with our lodge accommodation allowing you to come riding with friends, or host your own clinic at our facilities.

    We have;

    7 overnight / small paddocks approximately 20m2

    Large sand arena 25m x 60m

    Large round pen 17m diameter

    Small adjoining round pen 8m diameter.

  • We are a low tech venue. Wifi is available for the use of messaging and social media upon request but not for streaming.

    We have a range of games books located in the lounge cupboard your welcome to use.
